REJECTION OF COMMUNITY OF NUSANTARA’S WARTEG (small restaurant) TO THE NATIONAL CAPITAL WILL MOVE FROM JAKARTA

In connection with President Joko Widodo's state address, Friday, August 16, 2019 at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta with a plan to move the capital to a new place, we hereby, from the Warteg Community (Warung Tegal) Nusantara, abbreviated as KOWANTARA, express our opinions:

Reject the plan to move the capital to a new place with the reason:

Moving the capital requires a large budget, while the country's economic situation is not yet stable with conditions:

1. The purchasing power of Indonesian people is increasingly falling

2. Rising prices of basic commodities or groceries

3. In come small businesses are declining, especially small food stalls such as warteg (Tegal stalls) and others with the lack of buyers because the people's purchasing power is increasingly difficult

4. Difficult employment opportunities as a result of many companies closing and resulting in greater unemployment and of course wider poverty.

5. State debt is getting bigger

As well as the government's obligation to focus on overcoming the economy to be made a top priority such as: Declining purchasing power of people, high prices of basic commodities, greater unemployment, high poverty, and increasing national debt, these economic problems must immediately overcome and become the government's top priority in the welfare of its people rather than discouraging the relocation of the capital which actually adds new problems later

Thus our statement as the warteg community (warung Tegal) Nusantara abbreviated as KOWANTARA, and hopes that other communities also reject the plan to move the capital to a new place.

Saat datang ke masakan favorit, calon presiden Prabowo Subianto dan Joko "Jokowi" Widodo berbagi kegemaran untuk makanan jalanan.

Meski sangat banyak menghabiskan masa mudanya di luar negeri, Prabowo tidak pernah kehilangan nafsu makan untuk makanan indonesia, terutama nasi goreng, yang banyak tersedia di warung jalanan.

"Pak Prabowo suka mengajak tamu dan stafnya berkunjung untuk makan bersama di rumah, dan Anda selalu bisa menemukan nasi goreng yang disajikan di meja makan untuk sarapan, makan siang dan makan malam," kata Dirgayuza "Yuza" Setiawan, salah satu dari dekat Prabowo. Pembantu dan Strategi

Prabowo, menurut Yuza, juga menyukai nasi lemak (nasi yang dikukus dengan santan kelapa), salah satu masakan Melayu yang paling populer, disajikan dengan bawang putih ekstra.

Setiap kali Prabowo mengunjungi Kuala Lumpur, Yuza mengatakan, dia akan makan di restoran favoritnya, Warung Paman Don, setidaknya satu kali.

"Sambil menikmati masakan restoran, Pak Prabowo suka mengenang hari-hari yang dihabiskannya di Malaysia bersama ayahnya," kata Yuza.

Pada tahun 1957, ayah Prabowo, Soemitro Djojohadikusumo, yang merupakan salah satu pendiri negara tersebut, melarikan diri dari negara tersebut bersama keluarganya setelah mendapat tentangan terhadap Sukarno, yang dianggap terlalu dekat dengan pemimpin partai komunis dan tidak tahu pentingnya pengembangan ekonomi lokal.

Oleh karena itu, Prabowo muda harus tinggal dan belajar di Malaysia, Swiss dan Inggris sebelum memutuskan untuk bergabung dengan Tentara Nasional Indonesia (tahun TNI) pada tahun 1970, dua tahun setelah mempertimbangkan untuk pulang dan melayani sebagai menteri kabinet di Pemerintahan Soeharto

Karena masih memiliki gaya hidup Indonesia yang berakar, Prabowo terlihat cukup nyaman saat teman lama Aburizal Bakrie, pengusaha dan ketua Partai Golkar, ditunggu untuk makan sate kambing selama sebuah kampanye baru-baru ini di Bandung, Jawa Barat.

"Lezat, tapi gak makan ini terlalu sering," kata Prabowo, menyindir daging kambing tinggi lemak.

Sementara Prabowo berkeras makan nasi goreng di meja makannya, Jokowi tidak memiliki makanan favorit tertentu. Dia, bagaimanapun, memiliki kecenderungan untuk makan di warung jalanan.

Selama blusukannya, kunjungannya secara teratur terlihat makan di warteg (sebuah akronim untuk warung tegal, sebuah warung yang hadir dari Tegal, sebuah kabupaten di Jawa Tengah).

Dia terlihat dua kali mengambil ketua PDI Perjuangan Megawati Soekarnoputri untuk makan di warteg awal tahun ini.

Megawati sering mencekik tubuh ramping Jokowi, meminta makan lebih banyak.

"Saya sebenarnya tidak suka makan banyak Saya juga tidak punya makanan kesukaan saya makan hampir semuanya," kata Jokowi.

Prabowo loves ‘nasi goreng’, Jokowi opts for ‘warteg’ food

When it comes to favorite dishes, presidential hopefuls Prabowo Subianto and Joko “Jokowi” Widodo share a penchant for street food.

Despite spending most of his youth overseas, Prabowo never lost his appetite for Indonesian food, especially nasi goreng, which is widely available at street stalls.

“Pak Prabowo loves to ask his guests and visiting staff to share a meal in his house, and you can always find fried rice served at the dining table for breakfast, lunch and dinner,” said Dirgayuza “Yuza” Setiawan, one of Prabowo’s close aides and campaign strategists.

Prabowo, according to Yuza, also loves nasi lemak (rice steamed with coconut milk), one of the most popular Malay dishes, served with extra garlic.

Each time Prabowo visited Kuala Lumpur, Yuza said, he would eat at his favorite restaurant, Uncle Don’s Warong, at least once.

“While enjoying the restaurant’s dishes, Pak Prabowo loves to reminisce about the days he spent in Malaysia with his father,” said Yuza.

In 1957, Prabowo’s father, Soemitro Djojohadikusumo, who was among the country’s founding fathers, fled the country along with his family following his opposition to Sukarno, whom he deemed too close to communist party leaders and ignorant about the importance of developing the local economy.

For that reason, the young Prabowo had to live and study in Malaysia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom before deciding to join the Indonesian Military (TNI) in 1970, two years after his father agreed to come home and serve as a Cabinet minister in the Soeharto administration.

As he still attains a deep-rooted Indonesian lifestyle, Prabowo looked quite comfortable when long-time friend Aburizal Bakrie, businessman and chairman of the Golkar Party, invited him to eat mutton satay during a recent campaign event in Bandung, West Java.

“Delicious, but you shouldn’t eat this too often,” said Prabowo, insinuating that mutton is high in fat.

While Prabowo insists on having nasi goreng at his dinner table, Jokowi has no particular favorite food. He, however, has a noticeable penchant for eating at street stalls.

During his blusukan (impromptu public visits), he is regularly seen eating at a warteg (an acronym for warung tegal, a stall serving dishes originating from Tegal, a regency in Central Java).

He was seen twice taking out Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri to eat at a warteg earlier in the year.

Megawati often chides Jokowi’s slim physique, telling him to eat more to bulk up.

“I don’t actually like eating much. I also don’t have any favorite foods. I eat almost anything,” said Jokowi.
